Safa Departs Back to Libya

On Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 14 year old amputee Safa Soud and her father Ibrahim departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with Libya as their final destination. Safa arrived on November 23, 2012 to Los Angeles, California to be treated by Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles for a left leg amputation that she sustained during the 2011 Libyan revolution. During her stay in the United States of America, Safa underwent a surgery (learn more about it here) and was fitted with a prosthetic knee and leg. Safa arrived in the USA on crutches and returned home walking. The Children of Libya Aid Foundation would like to express our gratitude to all who made this possible for Safa, with special thanks to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House (LARMH), and all of our friends and donors.

Libyan Community Members of Southern California Bid Farewell to Safa

On Monday, December 7, 2013, members of the Libyan community in Southern California met with 14 year old amputee Safa Soud and her father Ibrahim to bid them farewell. Safa arrived in Los Angeles, California on November 23, 2012 to be treated at Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles for a left leg amputation that she sustained during the 2011 Libyan revolution.

Safa Soud Walking in Los Angeles, CA

On December 23, 2012, 14 year old Safa Soud walked through streets of Los Angeles, California with CLAF members and volunteers. On December 19, 2012, Shriners Hospital for Children – Los Angeles fitted Safa with a prosthetic leg that she started to and continues to practice walking with.

Safa’s Surgery

On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 14 year old Safa Soud underwent a two hour surgery for nerve repair as a result of the left leg amputation that she sustained in August 2011. Following her recovery, she will be fitted with a prosthetic knee and leg. We would like to express our gratitude to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Los Angeles. We would especially like to thank Dr. Anna Cuomo, the orthopaedic surgeon who performed Safa’s surgery.

Safa’s First Appointment at Shriners

On Monday, November 26, 2012, 14 year old Safa Soud had her first appointment at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Los Angeles. Safa is being treated for a left leg amputation that she sustained in August 2011 in her hometown of Zliten, Libya. In August 2011, Safa was caught in crossfire between pro and anti-Gaddafi forces and received a bullet to her left leg while on the roof of a house that her family was seeking refuge in during the 2011 Libyan revolution.
